The 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles was an opportunity for Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Emmanuel Macron to stress the importance of reviewing our common policy on sovereignty.
As an organization representing entrepreneurs and business leaders, MEDEF, in partnership with CPEM, Midi Libre and other regional players, decided to take advantage of the Franco-German Fortnight in Occitania to propose an event focusing on digital sovereignty.
the path to European sovereignty
Our view, shared by the event organizers, is that digital sovereignty can only be achieved at European level, given the political stakes involved and the resources, skills and investment required.
Many important questions were addressed, such as: why do Germans turn first to the Americans (or Israelis in Cybersecurity) when they can't find satisfactory technological solutions in Germany?
Why are the French rushing to China when they can't find satisfactory industrial partners in France?
On April 5, 2023, a round-table discussion was held at Midi Libre, moderated by Oliver Biscaye, chief editor of Midi Libre. This hybrid event was simultaneously translated into German and French to ensure optimum comprehension.
The first round table addressed the risks and impacts of digital sovereignty, international and European standards, and the European Data Act and its limits. The second round table addressed European sovereignty solutions, free from global leaders.
We are convinced that events like this are essential to strengthen Franco-German ties and to stimulate closer cooperation between the countries of the European Union. We will continue to share this type of event with you, and to consider organizing them in the future, to ensure that the relevant issues are addressed and that the concerns of businesses are heard.
